Main site or location of works: The Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) as amended by the Highways Agency. The A14 Ipswich Western Bypass from approx. 800 m east of Junction 52, Claydon Interchange, to a point 700 m west of Junction 55, Copdock Mill Interchange, Suffolk. The total scheme length is 6.4 km.

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORKS:
The A14 Ipswich Western Bypass from approx 800 m east of Junction 52, Claydon Interchange, to a point 700 m west of Junction 55, Copdock Mill Interchange, Suffolk. The total scheme length is 6.4 km. The pavement works involve concrete repairs to cracked slabs and failing joints prior to the application of a 40 mm nominal thickness thin surface course overlay with post saw cut and sealing over existing PQC slab joints (at 5 m centres). Pavment overlay to extend part-way into the existing slip roads to ensure a satisfactory tie-in. Other works include major re-furbishment of the surface water drainage system (including provision of slip form concrete 'V' channel), renewal of vehicle restraint systems, signs and road markings. Two existing lay-bys are to be improved and one is to be downgraded to emergency/operational use only. Traffic management to comprise of a multi-phase system including overnight lane closures, narrow lanes and gated overnigh/weekend contraflow. The following works are proposed at HA Structures Nos. A14/184.9 Bramford Road Bridge, A14/185.9 Sproughton Road Bridge and A14/186.1 River Gipping Bridge:- Repairs and reconstruction of exisiting ballast walls, replacement of joints and protection of existing parapets. Road-maintenance works.
