II.4)Short description of nature and quantity or value of supplies or services:
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (the ‘Trust’) would like to undertake a market consultation exercise, to consider the options available, from which a procurement strategy can be developed, in relation to the provision of a reduced Pre Registration Adult Branch nurse training course.
To meet the demands of workforce development the Trust wish to both increase the numbers of RN’s in training and deliver innovative ways to train RN’s that reduce the length of their training, thereby, increasing the numbers of RN’s for employment and creating that supply earlier than in the traditional three year training time frame.
The Trust are looking to engage with suppliers in the Higher Education Pre Registration training market place, to provide a reduced timescale training course that will meet the NMC requirements for Pre Registration training. The course will be a high quality education programme that places patients, carers and families at the centre of learning in practice and academic settings. Further it will enable students to achieve successfully, both academic outcomes and professional competence.
We invite interested suppliers to attend an open day and pre-market engagement session at the Trust on Thursday 9.7.2015. The session is intended to be an opportunity for suppliers to inform us on the options available, request information from the Trust regarding our requirements and enable the Trust to devise a procurement strategy.
A partnership approach, close collaborative working in the development, implementation and delivery of the course will be a pre-requisite of the successful provider of the contract. The contract will provide innovative and flexible solutions in the delivery of the course while maintaining the Trust’s focus on a having a nursing workforce that is safe, highly professional, resilient and equipped to meet the demands for the future.
Robust mentor and educational link support will be essential in order to ensure the course is clearly articulated to mentors and education links with clear support pathways in place for student practice issues. Quality assurance methods would be a core function of placement provision through educational audits and NMC mentor requirements. The partner HEI would need to be prepared to work with NHCFT and possibly other HEIs to ensure mentor requirements are seamless between providers.
Successful partnership working and communication would be an inherent component of the contract, working with senior nurses within the organisation to achieve the aim of a reduced pre registration adult branch training course and with the Trust’s overarching vision ‘To be the leader in providing high quality, safe and caring, health and care services’. There will be an inherent understanding that an evaluation of the programme would be undertaken to identify the impact of the course for the organisation.
The Trust covers a vast geographic area. It is anticipated that practice placement training would take place across the Trust’s acute and community settings, which would include four hospital base sites one of which is the new Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, Cramlington and:
— North Tyneside General Hospital, Rake Lane, North Shields, Tyne and Wear. NE29 8NH;
— Wansbeck General Hospital, Woodhorn Lane, Ashington Northumberland. NE63 9JJ;
— Hexham General Hospital, Hexham.
And the six community hospitals and numerous community services settings. Further information regarding the Trust can be found at:
