Titel: Advance announcement regarding calculation of carbon footprints for food products
Beschreibung: The purpose of this advance announcement is to invite potential bidders and relevant market operators to participate in a market dialogue and have an opportunity to provide input, feedback and recommendations on the upcoming tender of the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration regarding the calculation of climate footprints (CF) for food products, to be used i.e. in the documentation of the upcoming Danish climate label on food products. Potential bidders interested in participating in the dialogue should register for participation. Registration for participation in the market dialogue should be submitted by e-mail to Jamila Andersen at jaman@fvst.dk. In the request for participation, kindly include a brief introduction to your company/business and a short statement of your interest in this project. Deadline for submission: 31st March 2025. The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration reserves the right to limit the number of participants. In this case, a possible restriction will be based on objective and factual criteria, as the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration wishes to put together the group of dialogue partners so that it is representative of the market, given the size, geography and activity areas of the company. The participants will receive further information regarding the dialogue meeting after registration, e.g. a draft version of the methodology and specific questions the authority would like to discuss. If the food authority considers it appropriate, individual dialogue meetings will be held on the basis of submitted input and commentary on the supplied materials and information. Individual dialogue meetings with potential bidders based on the bidders' input to the tender material are expected to be held in April 2025.

Zusätzliche Informationen: In preparation for an expected upcoming tender for the development of a national climate label on food products, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration is interested in a market dialogue with potential bidders. The expected tender will be for: 1) Calculation of generic climate footprints for food products in the Danish market A generic product is a real or virtual (nonexisting) product that can represent the current production and consumption of a product in general. The footprints will be calculated according to an LCA methodology developed by Aarhus University, similar to the European Commission’s Product Environmental Footprint methodology and communicating a CF of weighted Danish market mix. Small adjustments in the methods can occur. As an option the contract may allow cover following products: 1) Inventory of unit process data that is used in the calculation of the above mentioned generic CFs, for use at the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, including use by a third part for Danish Veterinary and Food Administration. Unit process data will not be accessible for others, but could be for example embedded in a calculation tool developed by a third part for Danish Veterinary and Food Administration. 2) Open access calculation tool for calculating complex food products based on a specific recipe and that draws on the abovementioned CFs for ingredients. Moreover, the tool needs to draw on relevant processes e.g. for transport, cooking, storage etc. that are consistent with the method from AU and with abovementioned calculated generic CFs. 3) Open access tool for calculating product specific carbon footprints by producers, drawing automatically on the same background data as is used for calculating the generic carbon footprints, and built in accordance with the method from AU for product specific calculations The ambition is that the winner of the tender will cover possible license fees for data used in the calculation of carbon footprint. The winner will secure that the generic carbon footprints can be used free of charge and free of other restrictions for any user and any kind of use, including in a national carbon label by producers etc. and in a public generic carbon footprint database, that is both free of charge and openly available. The winner will make references to the used data available in a way that calculation of product specific carbon footprints by a third party for any use is possible. In the market dialogue the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration is interested in receiving input from relevant market actors on e.g. feasibility of carrying out the above mentioned assignments, estimated price level of calculation of CFs, accessibility of data with suitable licensing, including risks for use of data for the above mentioned uses, possible data sources (both multiple and single databases), as well as other input considered relevant by potential bidders.
