The European XFEL GmbH has plans for developing superconducting undulators (SCUs). SCUs can produce higher photon flux and can cover a wider photon energy range compared to permanent magnet undulators (PMUs) with the same vacuum gap and period length. In order to be able to implement superconducting undulators for future upgrades of the European XFEL facility it is necessary to build up know-how inside the facility to bring the undulator group to the state of the art technology developed at other laboratories as Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Argonne National Laboratory and to further improve the know-how to be later on transferred to industry.
For this reason a collaboration with DESY is currently ongoing for the realization of a test stand for the characterization of SCU magnets. The power supplies are needed for this test stand.
For finding companies with prooven expertize a market survey has been performed. 5 companies were contacted who have experience in production of power supplies to investigate the feasibility of our technical requests. As a result of the market survey 4 companies were selected and received the tender documents.
