The procured scientific instrument is intended for a very specific purpose: the verification of success of production steps of quantum device prototypes. These production processes require a multitude of consecutive steps between which the device must be cooled down to milli-Kelvin temperatures at which the desired quantum phenomena occur, followed a warming up and continuing with the next step. This cooldown process is a lynchpin step that may determine the speed of the entire production process. It is thus imperative to keep this time as low as possible. The procured instrument offers a cooldown time of 2-3 hours while competitor instruments can offer 6 h at best. Within the confines of a normal workday, this allows to set up two to three experiments, while other cryostat systems would allow for a maximum of one experiment per day, thus speeding up the overall process by a factor of 2 to 3. The chosen manufacturer uses exclusive intellectual property rights on the utilized cooldown technology and is thus able to offer this significant advantage over competitor instruments. In addition, the system does not require cryogenic liquids to reach operation temperatures, thus reducing both operation costs as well as maintenance time, making this very cost efficient.
