TitleBallycoolin Bus Depot Design and Build
DescriptionTo assist the NTA in the delivery of its Bus depot programme, it has been agreed that the Ballycoolin Bus Depot Project Design and Build Contract (the Project) will be procured by the National Transport Authority with AECOM acting as Employer's Representative and technical advisor to the NTA. BusConnects Dublin is a central component of the NTA Transport Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area which will reshape the city's public transportation landscape. Aligned with the Government's agenda to decarbonise the economy, the focus on electrifying the transport network is central to this strategy. This vision includes a substantial increase in the number of electrified buses within the fleet to facilitate expanded routes and heightened service frequencies. However, the current depot network in Dublin West is constrained and unable to accommodate these additional buses. As demand increases, expectations for continued growth and service reconfigurations place further pressure on the existing bus depot network, particularly as suburban population growth accelerates. The Ballycoolin depot will support this expansion by providing dedicated facilities for EV maintenance and charging while also providing onsite accommodation for operational and administrative staff. This integrated approach not only strengthens Dublin's public transport infrastructure but also supports sustainability objectives and the electrification of the transport system. Project Summary The Ballycoolin Bus Depot is a facility for electric buses and includes a comprehensive range of features designed to optimise public transport service delivery. The depot will accommodate: -Capacity for approximately 180 buses, with the current design accommodating 176 buses. -Administrative offices including an atrium entrance with a total floor area of approximately 2,520 square metres. -vehicle washing and cleaning building of approximately 1,120 square metres. -Major and minor repairs and maintenance bays, workshops and stores with a combined floor area of approximately 2,680 square metres. -Gate, entrance and security facilities.20 21Vehicle inspection bays and associated facilities with a floor area of approximately 510 square metres. -An electrical substation compound of approximately 2,700 square metres. -Seven transformer buildings of approximately 60 square metres each. -Car parking facilities including approximately 57 standard parking spaces, three accessible spaces, six motorcycle spaces and six electric vehicle spaces, with a total area of approximately 1,700 square metres. -Cycle parking facilities of approximately 24 square metres. -All associated ancillary works required for the delivery and operation of the facility.
