Strategic procurement
Aim of strategic procurement: Reduction of environmental impacts
Description: The procurement procedure minimizes environmental impacts by strictly enforcing sustainable asset management and operational standards. It mandates a certified grey water holding tank with deck-mounted pump-out capabilities to eliminate raw effluent discharge into sensitive ecosystems. Furthermore, by accepting second-hand vessels with under 1,000 certified hours, the department promotes circular economy principles, drastically reducing the carbon footprint and raw material demands associated with manufacturing a brand-new hull. Finally, the vessel's optimized 0.82-metre shallow draft actively prevents grounding, protecting vulnerable riverbeds and benthic habitats from physical disruption. Furthermore the use of this operational vessel will allow visible patrols and vantage points allowing better enforcement of environmental damage been carried out while also been used for rehabilitation works and scientific monitoring of area's not previously accessible
Approach to reducing environmental impacts: The protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems
