The department of chemistry at the University of Gothenburg are working on cutting-edge research within the areas of analytical chemistry, spectroscopy, electrochemistry, mass spectrometry and optical microscopy. Ongoing projects result in many different analytical applications and will require a microscope system with instrumental flexibility and special characteristics. The University has found that only one supplier can offer an instrument with all the required characteristics: Abberior Instruments, system: ‘easy3D-STED microscope’. A selection of the necessary technical features: *must enable analyses of live cell imaging with true live-cell STED in the instrument where the light dose is reduced via pulsed STED lasers (not continuous wave lasers), *must allow the use of existing/all types of lenses, and correction of optical aberrations (a patented technical function for better images in deep tissue), *must have continuous autofocus (self-correcting) while imaging a whole volume, *must have fully flexible spectral detection with high photon sensitivity, *must have continuous individual laser sources with adjustable excitation spots in x, y and z directions, *must have flexible gating functionality allowing to image simultaneously with multiple gates and readjust the gating settings, *must allow remote overnight control of the instrument. These technical characteristics are critically important in planned research projects. With reference to the described technical reasons, and due to exclusive patent rights for a technical feature necessary in the research, the University intends to award Abberior Instruments the contract for the purchase of a easy3D-STED microscope-system according to chapter 6, section 14, par. 2 and 3 in the Swedish public procurement act (2016:1145).
