Annan motivering: The sequencing instruments offered by MGI (types G400 and T7) are already established within all crucial experimental workflows in the groups. These instruments are based on a unique sequencing technology that delivers very high-quality sequencing results compared to established companies in the field. In this procurement, the product in question is the sequencing reagent kits for use with the existing MGI sequencing instruments mentioned above. It is not possible to purchase reagent kits that can be used with the instruments in our facilities from other vendors than MGI for a multitude of technical reasons outlined below. 1. Proprietary sequencing flow cell technology. The sequencing instruments from MGI in our laboratory are only possible to operate with the patterned array flow cells produced by MGI to load and capture DNA Nanoballs. The flow cell patterned array technology is subject to at least one patent (European Patent Office EP1907583B2). MGI flow cells are only available as part of the kit for sequencing containing reagents and flow cell. 2.Proprietary reagent chemistry. MGI is the only vendor with compatible 4-color chemistry (ie. every nucleotide base has its own fluorescent channel, as opposed to utilizing only 2 colors in most competing machines). Thus, the lasers and optics installed in the machines are not suitable to sequencing with other reagent chemistries and other companies cannot offer sequencing kits for our instruments. Furthermore, the sequencing kit contains the optimized components for linear rolling circle amplification during the sequencing process (instead of cluster PCR), which is not available elsewhere. 3. Instrument control software. The sequencing instruments are equipped with control software that recognizes MGIs sequencing kits (eg. by RFID sensor in the case of T7 instrument). Thus, MGI instruments exclude the possibility to run third-party reagents even if they existed. The machines are also equipped with control software that only allows the usage of the new Standard MPS, modified form chemistry and excludes the possibility to run kits on the previous chemistry version that was subject to patent litigation. Based on the listed technical reasons, KI conclude that no other company can provide the sequencing reagents for our MGI sequencing instruments.
