II.2.4)Description of the procurement:

The Norwegian Environment Agency is focusing on increasing the efficiency and improve the environmental monitoring. We therefore need to develop an automatic environmental monitoring system that uses environmental DNA.

The main goal of the project is to develop a tool for automatic monitoring in fresh water (rivers and lakes), so that the large potential in environmental DNA can be fully exploited. The unit we would like to be developed will be used under different conditions in fresh water for monitoring organisms that require management. We have a particular need for a tool that monitors the spread of harmful alian species and disease organisms such as Gyrodactylus salaris, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and crayfish disease. Furthermore, we would like a system that can be used to monitor threatened species and to classify the ecological condition in accordance with the water regulations. Approx. 250 species of invertebrates are used in the current classification system as indicator species for determining the ecological conditions in fresh water. We would like in the future to be able to modify the developed system for other areas of use and other environments.
