Reference number: MOVE/C4/2018-224
II.1.2)Main CPV code
60200000 Railway transport services
II.1.3)Type of contract
Services
II.1.4)Short description:

A specific technical standard for rail interoperability concerns “telematics application for freight services” (“TAF TSI”).

The system has so far achieved standardisation and enhancement of exchanges between different rail infrastructure managers and railway undertakings, with very marginal involvement of terminals and therefore of the intermodal / multimodal dimension.

In the wide framework of e-enhanced multimodal logistics, and digitalisation of transport, several initiatives are being currently proposed by the Commission and/or discussed in the Digital Transport and Logistics Forum. These elements, facilitating multimodal integration, represent a major opportunity for railway (a non-door-to-door model therefore in need of smooth multimodal exchanges); however, delays in rail digitalisation / development of rail-only environments / tools might jeopardize this opportunity and set railways apart from the integration they offer, therefore curbing perspectives for freight transport.
