UK SBS on behalf of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) anticipates undertaking a procurement exercise for the Provision of VSAT Satellite Communications Systems (Space Segment) for BAS Stations, Ships and Cambridge HQ.
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is a component part of the Natural Environment Research Council, and has, for the last sixty years, undertaken the majority of Britain's scientific research on and around the Antarctic continent. For more information on BAS, visit: www.bas.ac.uk
The purpose of the proposed procurement exercise will be to appoint a provider who can supply, manage and maintain the satellite hardware and bandwidth and undertake hardware upgrade at all the sites.

This Prior Information Notice is being issued in order to undertake a market consultation exercise with regards to the service detailed above. If you believe that this will be of interest to you and your organisation, please register your interest by sending an email to the following email address: katarzyna.nawrotek@uksbs.co.uk The estimated value of the full contract will range from 2 000 000 GBP to 5 000 000 GBP. We anticipate this being a 5-year contract with the option for 2 further extension periods of 1 year.

For the avoidance of doubt, this notice is not a Call for Competition; a Contract Notice will be issued as a call for competition. Not registering an interest shall not prevent any supplier participating in a potential future procurement, nor is it intended that any information supplied as part of preliminary market consultation shall place any supplier at an advantage in a potential procurement process.
It is anticipated that the contract will be effective from 1.10.2017.
