The Mayor of London announced in his manifesto a number of air quality improvement initiatives to combat the rising issue of poor air quality in London.
1 of these initiatives includes the possibility of retrofitting c. 5 000 diesel buses in the Transport for London (TfL) fleet that are Euro V standard or below with NOx abatement equipment, in order to meet Euro VI emission requirements, by 2020/2021.
Retrofit emissions systems can upgrade heavy duty vehicles to the latest emissions standards (Euro VI), at a fraction of the cost against purchasing new vehicles, by reducing the main air pollutants that are damaging to health.
TfL intends to work with suppliers to identify the most efficient method of retrofitting all diesel buses in the TfL fleet that are Euro V standard or below, in the required time-scales with the least interruption to operational service.
TfL will require retrofit solutions to be provided for a number of different engine types. Collaboration with other GLA functional bodies is also likely to be undertaken, and therefore retrofit solutions for further vehicles may also be required.
TfL will be hosting a Supplier Day on Wednesday, 31.8.2016 from 10:00-14:00 at its premises in Central London.
