The project is to replace an existing masonry brick arch bridge crossing the Electrified West Coast Mainline Railway with a new structure and to widen the existing A45 locally.
The scope will comprise but is not limited to detailed design and construction of highway works and a bridge over a railway, (including management of OHLE), demolition, temporary works, road and bridge construction, temporary alterations to OHLE, minor civils rail line-side infrastructure works, traffic signs, street lighting and service diversions.
The project is currently in outline design stage and SMBC is seeking a Contractor to take the project through detailed design and construct the works. The award of the contract will be subject to funding agreed by DfT following the submission for full approval in the third quarter of 2014.
The project will be procured under an NEC Engineering and Construction Contract. It is currently anticipated that the commencement date will be in August 2014, with a main construction start date in January 2015 and completion before August 2016.
Under this procurement the Contractor is required to actively participate in the economic and social regeneration ethos of the Council and accordingly contract performance conditions may relate to socio-economic and environmental considerations.
