Instrument should capture optical characteristics (pulse profiles) of fluorescence and scattering properties of living phytoplankton cells in addition to high resolution photo images collected at high frequency to be used for phytoplankton functional groups and taxonomic identification. The image and pulse recording flow cytometer will be used in research projects on marine plankton. The intended scope of the instrument is for enumeration and identification of phytoplankton functional groups and species from natural water samples. The instrument needs to be a versatile and flexible to allow working with fixed or moving laboratories using seawater flow-through. Instrument must be equipped with lasers allowing detection of different phytoplankton pigments. It need to be able to simultaneously detect light scattering and pigment fluorescence of phytoplankton cells. Fluorescence pulse profiles need to be recorded.
