Using satellite images to improve the operation of the Natura 2000 network: prototype for monitoring Natura 2000 sites habitats with Copernicus
The contract aims to develop a system for monitoring land cover changes in Natura 2000 sites, using Copernicus satellites observations, with a specific focus on grasslands. The monitoring will be completed with landcover changes obtained from satellite imagery pre-dating Sentinel, in order to follow landcover changes since the creation on Natura 2000 sites. The largest possible proportion of Natura 2000 sites for the longest possible timespan should be covered.
The result of the monitoring of the landcover changes within the Natura 2000 sites will be accessible from a public website, letting European users observe the sequence of changes as well as their amount, for each site. It should allow identification of sites or regions where obvious changes have been identified by the system, in particular for what concerns the loss of natural and semi natural habitats (and specifically grasslands).
Open call for tender: Single service contract of 24-months duration, non-renewable.
Please note this was previously published in the PIN OJ 2018/S 056-123139 on 21.3.2018 with the title "Using satellite images to improve the operation of the Natura 2000 Network" with an amount of 1 000 000 EUR.
