This technical assistance operation aims to:

— provide an overview of energy storage technologies and their advantages and disadvantages, their general costs and areas of application,

— provide an analysis of the national electricity sector and determine whether it is appropriate to develop energy storage capacity,

— quantify the overall energy storage capacity required, broken down by type of technology and control mode,

— provide the location of the sites on the national network, where the energy storage capacities will have to be installed, and the control modes and possible integration into the energy distribution or transmission management system (EMS),

— carry out a strategic assessment of the environmental and social impacts associated with the development of a new energy storage system, and

— finally, propose a sustainable energy storage strategy for the Moroccan network.
