The London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham will lead a group of 8 local authorities in the West London Alliance to procure by competitive tender a contract for a Higher Education Institution provider to deliver the Step Up to Social Work Programme funded by the Department for Education. The course trains social workers to Post Graduate Diploma level over 14 months; candidates who wish to obtain a master's degree must complete the remaining credits within two years of their initial enrolment. The syllabus ensures that the training meets local needs and that councils reap the benefits of a stable workforce as candidates are committed to a two-year contract with their host authority after they qualify. For students, there is the reassurance of employment when they graduate. The successful bidder will be awarded a six-year contract from May 2017, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability, to be reviewed biennially. One member of staff will be eligible for TUPE transfer.
