De marktconsultatie heeft als doel het onderzoeken of er een efficiëntere wijze van optimaal onderhoud aan de vaartuigen kan worden gerealiseerd. Deze vaartuigen worden momenteel voor een groot gedeelte op een traditionele wijze – conform de instructieboekjes van de aan boord aanwezige componenten - onderhouden waarbij in een nauwe samenwerking Rijksrederij-Techniek verantwoordelijk is voor de scope (het "wat") en Rijksrederij-Exploitatie voor de opdrachtverstrekking en uitvoeringsbegeleiding (het "hoe").
