The proposed Works, situated at Tyne Car Terminal Berth No.3 at Port of Tyne, Tyne Dock, South Shields, are to accommodate larger vessels for an expanded Roll-on Roll-off facility.
The project involves the design, fabrication, installation and commissioning of a new pontoon to replace the existing pontoon which will support an existing link-span bridge and will be restrained by new restraint dolphins or mono-piles. The works also include the design and construction of new berthing dolphins, the design and installation of new fenders onto an existing jetty, the installation of new bollards and testing existing bollards, new handrails and the construction of a rock revetment. An existing restraint dolphin will need to be removed along with the existing pontoon and existing fendering from the jetty some of which has collapsed onto the bed of the river.
