Multi-material Full-colour 3D Printer
A multi-material full-colour 3D printer must be procured;
The primary motivation for purchasing this equipment is for research and development in colour science, appearance (including colour, gloss, translucency ad texture), in a 3D printing context but also in general.
MSCA ITN project ApPEARS (http://www.appears‐itn.eu), coordinated by NTNU [the Norwegian University of Science and Technology]/IDI/Colourlab.
Afdeling IV: Procedure
Based on the fact that there is a significant established research and development collaboration with Stratasys Ltd., in connection with the MSCA ITN project ApPEARS (http://www.appears‐itn.eu), coordinated by NTNU/IDI/Colourlab, we believe that a Stratasys 3D printer can be purchased without a prior notice. The primary motivation for purchasing this equipment is for research and development in colour science, appearance (including colour, gloss, translucency ad texture), in a 3D printing context but also in general.
Stratasys Ltd. Is one of the industrial partner organisations in the ApPEARS project. The ApPEARS members are all academic institutions and given the MSCA ITN project's emphasis on training the 15 postgraduate students in both an academic and industrial environment, we are extremely dependent on our industrial partner organisations. Stratasys has received a particularly important role in ApPEARS after our previous industrial main partners, OCE PLT, shut down operations and therefore had to leave the consortium entirely in the beginning of the project period. A researcher from Stratasys is a co-supervisor for one of our PhD research fellows, and two other research fellows in the project will be placed with Stratasys in a few months. In addition, Stratasys' department in Germany will host all 15 research fellow during next years planned seminar/workshop.
To have a multi-colour 3D printer from Stratasys at NTNU in Gjøvik, instead of from another manufacturer, will be mutually beneficial and absolutely necessary for the research and development collaboration between NTNU and Stratasys. This will also be of use for other ApPEARS research fellow employed by NTNU (altogether five) in that they will receive better research training and deeper insight in the 3D printer technology as they will get direct access to researchers at the manufacturer and not just to the sellers.
