The objective of this study is to create an in-depth understanding of drivers, challenges and barriers which affect the transfer of smart systems from lab to the market. It will then identify and conceptualise solutions which can remove bottlenecks to the market roll-out of these technologies both in the field of smart systems and smart objects, especially by examining the results of the FP7 projects in this domain. The analysis will cover the entire innovation value chain from technology development to manufacturing and to market roll-out. Finally, the study will make concrete recommendations for European policies and programmes in these fields, especially for Horizon 2020, to facilitate commercialisation, to overcome barriers to market acceptance, and to ultimately monetise innovations.

The study has to examine the retail price of fixed access technologies, including xDSL, cable modem, fibre, satellite and fixed wireless access. The retail price of mobile broadband products is in principle not included in this study. The contract will be renewable for 3 years.
