Market Survey – Purchase and Installation of Ski Lifts for the Reykjavik Capital Area Ski-Areas
The purpose of this RFI is to request information from providers that are capable of giving information of technological analysis for the design of ski-lifts and their equipment.
This currently published notice is a request for information only (RFI), but not a call for competition.
There is no guarantee that this RFI will result in a competitive tender.
Responding or not responding to this RFI will not affect any tender process.
Parties should note that participation in this pre-market engagement exercise is not a prerequisite to participate in any possible subsequent procurement process. Reykjavíkurborg is committed in ensuring that all parties are treated equally.
The Reykjavik Capital Area Ski-Areas have plans of installing new ski lifts at their ski-area in Bláfjöll and this notice is a request for information only (RFI) but not a call for competition. The project involves the design of lifts and their equipment, together with chair storages, manufacturing, installation, warranty maintenance for 2 years for equipment. Also, earthworks and foundations, casting and finishing of chair storages and finishing of surface.
The slopes of Bláfjöll are loose gravel screes/weathered sediment with underlying pillow lava. At the bottom of the flanks of Bláfjöll the thickness of the scree layer is approximately 2-3 m, while further up it gets thinner and there is sporadic exposed bedrock visible on the surface.
The pillow lava and uppermost part of the lava/dolerite covering can generally be excavated by powerful diggers larger than 35 tonnes. The boundaries between loose layers and bedrock can be unclear. At greater depths, the bedrock/tuff becomes denser and may require chiselling.
The weather conditions in Bláfjöll is fairly rainy, with high winds. Snow depths and weather conditions in general vary considerably between years. As a rule, one can expect the snow to have disappeared from the Bláfjöll area by the end of May. The first night frosts begin in September, and October sees the first snowfalls, with quite long thaw spells in between.
The provisional main specifications for the two ski-lifts are as follows:

Providers are requested to send information about their experience and/or opinion on the following:
— which design standards are traditionally used, or should be used, for referral regarding such ski-lifts, their equipment and their associated buildings?
— when it comes to the testing of the provided lifts after installation, which standards and/or requirements should the ski-lifts fulfil when it comes to the testing of load, operations, brakes, electricity etc., to ensure both safe and reliable operations?
— the housing for the drive machinery, chair guides and etc. needs to be as weather tight as possible. What would be the optimal way to achieve the best results in this regard?
— how is prevention against corrosion of the ski-lift equipment best achieved in such an aggressive environment and weather conditions?
— what would be the optimal solution for the laying of electrical and communication cables?
— should they be placed underground or are there some safe end secure solutions available for placing them above ground?
— What would be the optimal solution for the structure and the external and internal finishing of the chair storage?
— what is a reasonable timeframe from start to finish for of this kind of project, i.e. divided between design, manufacturing and installation?
— what would be a reasonable qualification criteria that participants in a competitive tender process for the project should meet?
— any other suggestions in the intended preparation for a competitive tender process that could to be carried out or should beware of?
