Market Survey – Purchase of Snow-Making Equipment for the Reykjavik Capital Area Ski-Areas
The purpose of this RFI is to request information from providers that are capable of giving information of technological analysis for the design of snow-making equipment including the associated system and constructions.
This currently published notice is a request for information only (RFI), but not a call for competition.
There is no guarantee that this RFI will result in a competitive tender.
Responding or not responding to this RFI will not affect any tender process.
Parties should note that participation in this pre-market engagement exercise is not a prerequisite to participate in any possible subsequent procurement process. Reykjavíkurborg is committed in ensuring that all parties are treated equally.
The Reykjavik Capital Area Ski-Areas have plans of investing in snow-making equipment for the ski areas at Bláfjöll and Skálafell and this notice is a request for information only (RFI) but not a call for competition.
The project involves the design and provision of a complete snow making system. Water for the manufacture in the Bláfjöll area is sourced from a groundwater borehole, provided by the buyer, with output of approximately 20 l/s. In Skálafell the water supply shall be collected from nearby creeks and water collection is included in the project. The snow-making system shall be connected and the system thence installed to a 12 000 m3 reservoir. The project involves the design and final finish of a reservoir, pump/control centre building and the snow-making system as a whole.
The system shall be designed for at least 65 l/s and produce snow for the priority areas in Skálafell and Bláfjöll, with possibilities for extensions at a later date.
Design, planning and equipment selection should consider the following conditions:
— temp oC +1 to -4 50 %,
— temp oC -4 to -7 30 %,
— temp oC < -7 20 %,
— wind (Bláfjöll / Skálafell)
—— wind 0-5 m/s 20 %/30 %;
—— wind 5-10 m/s 50 %/40 %;
—— wind > 10 m/s 30 %/30 %.

Providers are requested to send information about their experience and/or opinion on the following:
— which design standards are traditionally used, or should be used, for referral regarding such snow-making equipment, their systems and their associated buildings?
— when it comes to the testing of the provided equipment after installation, which standards and/or requirements should the snow-making equipment and the associated system fulfil to ensure both safe and reliable operations?
— what would be the optimal solution regarding the pumping system in each case i.e. on one hand for the borehole in Bláfjöll and on the other hand for the water collection at Skálafell?
— what would be the optimal solution for the structure and the external and internal finishing of the pump/control central building?
— what would be the optimal solution for the laying of electrical cables, communication cables and water pipes?
— what is a reasonable timeframe from start to finish for of this kind of project, i.e. divided between design, manufacturing and installation?
— what would be a reasonable qualification criteria that participants in a competitive tender process for the project should meet?
— any other suggestions in the intended preparation for a competitive tender process that could to be carried out or should beware of?
