Frenchay Primary School (FPS) project comprises the design and construction of a new build 2FE primary school to replace the old school located adjacent Frenchay Common. The project forms part of the Councils Capital Programme which was approved in February 2018 and is funded partially from Section 106 contributions from the developer, Redrow and partially from a capital receipt that the Council will be seeking to obtain from the disposal of land at Malmains Drive also in Frenchay.

The site is located on the old Frenchay Hospital site and has an area of 1,3 ha which is not ideal for a 2FE primary which means the final design concept will have to be comprised to overcome this constraint. Other constraints exist on the site such as poor access routes for both pedestrians and vehicles, existing trees which have protection notices on them, planning consent for high rise residential flats on the red line west boundary, an existing hospital on the west boundary, a listed boundary wall in the north area of the site, a wooded area with overhanging trees on the east boundary.

The proposed new 2 storey building currently has a gross internal floor area (GIFA) of approximately 2 300 m2.

The outline specification for the proposed new building will be a steel framed primary structure, steel framed secondary structure to form the inner leaf of the external walls, part rendered and part timber clad elevations, powder coated aluminium double glazed windows/curtain walling, a flat roof and metal stud internal partitioning all as indicated on the tender drawings.

External works comprises the design and construction of new staff car park and service yard, a hard play area for netball and basketball, new sports pitch, play equipment and trim trails, 2,4 m security fencing around the site boundary, internal fencing around the reception play area, reception canopy, sprinkler tank enclosure, bin-store enclosure, new underground foul and surface water systems, new incoming underground service mains.
