II.1.3)Short description of the contract
The concession contract includes the operation of regional rail services in Southern Finland.
The objective is to have the tendering process completed and services up and running in the early 2020s. A more detailed schedule of the process and scope of the contract will be defined in the course of preparatory work.
The process is scheduled to run in parallel with the competitive tendering of commuter rail services of the Helsinki Region Transport (HSL).

The Southern Finland regional rail network is approximately 511 km in total. There are 42 stations currently in use (43 stations by the end of 2017). In this rail section there were 170 trains per workday, 145 on Saturdays and 134 on Sundays in 2016.
The quantity and value of services as well as expected start and duration of the contract are estimations and will be defined in the course of preparatory work and the bidding process.

An event to interested stakeholders will be held on 4.10.2017 by open invitation. The event will be organised in cooperation with HSL and it contains a presentation of the planned timetable for the call for tenders of the regional rail services in Southern Finland and the HSL commuter rail services.
