Explanation:
The Dismounted Close Combat Team (DCC) part of the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) intends to award a contract to Colt Canada Corporation for the supply and purchase of additional quantities of L119A2 (C8) Assault Rifles to meet the demand of the increased sized fleet. The authority intends to exercise the option within the SSP/00010 contract to facilitate this requirement. This will increase the value of the current contract by 522 000 GBP to a total Value of 4 387 599 GBP.
Reason for award: As the Design Authority Colt Canada Corporation underwrite the design and performance integrity of the whole weapon it is therefore considered that this contract can be placed using the negotiated procedure without prior publication of a contract notice pursuant to Articles 28 (1)(e) and 28 (3)(a) of Directive 2009/8a EC Regulations 16(1)(a)(ii) and 16 (1)(b)(i) of the UK Defence and Security Public Contracts Regulations 2011 for reasons associated with the protection of exclusive rights, to ensure compatibility with the current weapon and commonality across the fleet.
