Manchester Metropolitan University (the University) was awarded university status in 1992 and is the largest campus-based undergraduate University in the United Kingdom with a total population of more than 37,000 students. Our claim is to be the University for World Class professionals with an emphasis on vocational education and employability. In order to attract students and provide a professional, modern environment for learning, the University now has an extensive new build and refurbishment programme. The University is progressing with the development of the Science and Engineering project, with the new-build element and potential refurbishment of some existing buildings on the John Dalton site of the All Saints campus. The University is pleased to invite detailed expressions of interest for the provision of the "design and construction of the new build and potential refurbishment works on the John Dalton site for the Manchester Metropolitan University Science and Engineering faculty". The overall works are envisaged to include the following: New Build Element Potential demolition of the existing John Dalton West Building (circa 3 000 sq.m) and service diversions. Part of these works may be carried out as a package of enabling works. The construction of a new-build facility of circa 13 500 sq.m including all substructures, superstructures, fixed and loose fixtures and fittings and equipment, mechanical and electrical services, drainage external works and external services. As well as physical links into the existing John Dalton Tower at multiple levels. The adjacent public realm works. Potential Refurbishment Element Potential refurbishment/remodeling/minor interventions/re-occupation of the existing spaces within the existing John Dalton buildings (circa 8 000 sq.m), and including the installation of the fixed and loose fixtures and fittings and equipment, but this element is subject to review. The demolition of the existing John Dalton East Building (Circa 15 000 sq.m), and public realm work/landscaping treatment to the area. This may form a separate package of works to be carried out after occupation of the new facility by the University. It is proposed that the development will provide teaching accommodation in the following proportions within the proposed 13 500 sq.m new build element:

— office space 42 %,

— laboratories 12 %,

— general teaching 5 %,

— self-directed and social learning 6 %,

— circulation and plant 35 %.

It is envisaged the construction of the new build will begin by no later than 55 with the new facility being operational by no later than 16.3.2023, and the refurbishment/remodeling/minor intervention of the existing buildings will begin by no later than 26.1.2022 and be completed by no later than 11.8.2023.
